Mississippi - Shipbuilding Industry Preparedness for National Security

The MS-SHIPS program is a collaborative effort involving 29 diverse members, including defense manufacturers, suppliers, academic institutions, government agencies, economic development organizations, and non-profits. The program aims to modernize and strengthen the shipbuilding industry in South/Central Mississippi, aligning with the priorities of the Department of Defense (DoD).

The FlexFactor program is an advanced manufacturing project.  High school students will identify a real world issue that could be solved using Flexible Hybrid Electronics (Example carbon monoxide poisoning). They will conceptualize the hardware product that could address the problem, then build a business model around the product.  Finally, they will pitch the product concept “Shark Tank” style to a panel of educators and professionals.

Ms. Kiaira Quinn made this wonderful Shark Tank clip from our last presentation on Feb 28th at Pike National Bank. Pike National Bank was gracious enough to offer us their community room for our presentations, provide judges to help evaluate the projects, plus host snacks and drinks for the students! We are proud to partner with Pike National Bank for these events and recognize their contributions to SMCC and the community. A special thank you to Ms. Quinn for documenting the event and volunteering as an in classroom mentor for future programs! Be sure to check them out on Facebook page as well. @PikeNationalBank
