
Position Title: HEAD MECHANIC
Job Goals:
· To keep the district vehicles and equipment in such a state of operating excellence that they present no problems or interruptions to the educational program.
Qualifications:
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Good writing and communication skills.
· Demonstrate success in performing a wide variety of tasks requiring an understanding of and proficiency of automotive, diesel mechanics, and mechanical repair.
· Possess five years of automotive/mechanical repair experience and/or appropriate certificate indicating formal automotive/mechanical repair training and schooling.
· Ability to establish and maintain records required in the transportation department.
· Ability to schedule and supervise work assignments and evaluate mechanics, assistant mechanic, and mechanic helpers.
· Ability to safely lift a minimum of 50 lbs., climb, push, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach.
· Possess valid Mississippi Commercial Driver’s License.
· Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Requirements:
· Assign duties and make work schedule for mechanics and mechanic helpers.
· Monitor and help to evaluate the work performance of mechanics and mechanic helpers, offer recommendations on yearly evaluations.
· Maintain an inventory of needs, parts and supplies, maintain records of usage, place requests for parts and supplies as needed to keep inventory current.
· Assist in up-grading mechanics’ skills and work performance through on the job training, task performance monitoring, and modeling techniques.
· Diagnosis and repair of district automotive equipment.
· Promote high standards of safety and good housekeeping methods in work connected areas.
· Establish an efficient and effective system of routine automotive maintenance and preventive care. Establish and maintain cost and repair record system.
· Conduct safety checks and inspections as required by the district and state law.
· Maintain records of these inspections. Assist in the record keeping and filing of all reports due the district or State Department of Transportation.
· Perform bus routes as needed for compensations at the daily rate if bus route is outside of the daily work schedule.
· Ensure that all busses are fueled in the A.M.
· Inspect busses daily using Mississippi Highway Patrol checklist to verify they are in good working condition.
· If utilizing C.W.C. Workers, pick up and transport after busses are fueled.
· Ensure tools, equipment and supplies back in proper location daily.
· Promote safety in shop by using proper tools and clean surroundings daily.
· Perform such other duties as assigned by the Transportation Director.
