Commercial Truck Driving (Summit)

Now Enrolling for Spring 2026 Classes!

Intro. To Trucking

Intro. to Trucking is designed for beginners with little to no experience operating semi-trucks and trailers. In this classroom-based course, you’ll learn how to perform pre-trip inspections, complete ELDT classroom training with a certified instructor, and prepare for your CDL permit test.

Safety and industry standards are key topics, and while you’ll not drive a truck in this course, you’ll gain the knowledge and confidence needed for behind-the-wheel training. Explore the trucking industry and see if this career is right for you—before committing to the full cost of CDL training! The upcoming course dates are listed below.

  • Summit Day Class: January 5, 2026 – January 16, 2026 (9 am – 1 pm)
  • Summit Night Class: January 20, 2026 – January 30, 2026 (5 pm – 9 pm)
  • Woodville Night Class: January 5, 2026 – January 16, 2026 (7 pm – 10 pm)

Requirements:

  • Complete a Registration Form
  • Complete a CDL Application
  • Must have a Valid Mississippi Driver’s License
  • Complete a Background Check
  • Pay $250 Registration Fee (This fee is applied to the total cost of the CDL Program if the student chooses to complete the behind-the-wheel portion)

Behind-The-Wheel Training

If students from the Intro to Trucking course wish to continue their journey toward earning a Class A CDL, the next step is the Behind-the-Wheel Training portion of the program. During this phase, students will receive one-on-one, hands-on instruction with a certified trainer, gaining real-world experience operating a semi-truck and trailer.

This course is also open to individuals who already have trucking experience or need to renew their CDL license. All participants—whether advancing from Intro to Trucking or entering directly—must meet the same admission requirements outlined for the Intro course, in addition to the following requirements:

  • Provide a copy of your Motor Vehicle Report (MVR)
  • Provide a copy of your permit
  • Complete a DOT Physical and DOT Drug Screen (The payment for these is included in the $250 registration fee)
  • Pay remaining balance of $2,250

If you are not completing Intro. to Trucking, you must have completed applicable Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) from a registered training provider unless you meet the exceptions as outlined at ELDT Applicability Factsheet – 508

Once all necessary documents and payments are received, you will be scheduled for the behind-the-wheel training.
